The 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is knocking on the doors! The different countries have finally started to announce their squads. Therefore the BCCI has also disclosed the names of the players who are going to head towards Dubai for the grand tournament.
The squad looks quite similar to the squad of women’s T20 Asia Cup which was held in July this year. However, only Uma Chetry seems to miss as the wicketkeeper-batter gets replaced with Yastika Bhatia. Soon after the squad was announced the fans started questioning her inclusions amid her fitness issue as well as Shreyanka Patil’s comeback is also looking inappropriate since she’d suffered a fractur in her left hand’s finger in during an Asia Cup game against Pakistan.
Let’s delve into the complete details of this story.
Yastika Bhatia’s entry is subjected to fitness
Bhatia was Mumbai Indians’ third-highest run-scorer in WPL 2024 with 204 runs in eight outings. Since playing her the first T20I against Bangladesh in Sylhet in April the player has been out of the scene. For now, she’s recovering from a knee injury at BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Therefore, her entry sparks immense controversies among cricket lovers.
Meanwhile, other wicketkeeper batters Uma Chetry, Tanuja Kanwar, who replaced Patil in the India squad for the Asia Cup, and fast bowler Saima Thakor are named non-traveling reserves.
