Selena Gomez is looking back at the darkest period of her life. The “Single Soon” singer told Hoda Kotb on Thursday’s Today show what was the most painful time during her life ahead of her Bipolar diagnosis. She revealed it was one of the regretful decisions she had made against her team’s advice. The singer who continues to be an advocate for mental health awareness shared her gratitude to the impact it had on her life. Let’s check out what she had revealed.
Selena Gomez said she wasn’t understanding her mind at the time
The 31-year-old revealed at the time of her Bipolar diagnosis her team advised her to make her condition public which she ignored. However, Gomez is now regretting the decision since she would “absolutely” go against the decision now.
The pop star shared in the show, “Once I did, there was no taking it back. I was very proud.”
She also noted, “I wasn’t understanding my mind. I wasn’t understanding my reactions and my emotions, and I think that was probably the most painful time in my life.”
Although she is currently the most followed female in the world with 428 million followers on Instagram, she noted that it’s important to maintain boundaries to protect her peace.
“I disabled all my comments for all my photos on Instagram for only my friends,” the singer shared. “So I think I’ve created boundaries to help me. Obviously people fussed about it, but they fuss about everything, so, I just, I felt empowered by doing that, by saying, ‘This is just for me.’”
However, The Rare Beauty founder is not alone in this battle since she has someone special by her side which is none other than her boyfriend, music producer Benny Blanco.
Gomez gushed after Kotb praised Blanco by saying, “It feels wonderful. He’s wonderful.”
In the previous month, a source close to the couple unveiled some sweet facts about the couple’s romance.
“Everyone can see that they have a loving relationship and both sides couldn’t be more encouraging,” the source said of the couple’s close circle, noting that their relationship has “gotten very serious.”
“Selena trusts him more than any other past romantic partner in her life,” it continues. “They are very respectful of one another and their relationship is growing in positive ways.”
