The 43-year-old told the outlet, “I don’t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place. This moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel like what is going to be best for all of us. The decisions I make, I make them with Eva and we make them with our family in mind first.”

The award winning star also revealed his Academy winning movie 2016’s La La Land was the first film he chose with family in mind. “Even though they’re not coming to set, we’re practicing piano every day or we’re dancing or we’re singing,” he recalls of that time. “It was just sort of like, ‘Oh, this will be fun for them, too.’”

Previously, he also candidly admitted that he considered doing the role of Ken in Margot Robbie’s 2023 blockbuster Barbie after he walked into his backyard and found his daughters’ Ken doll discarded in the mud.

“Their interest in Barbie and their disinterest in Ken was an inspiration,” Gosling noted. “They were already making little movies about their Barbies on the iPad when it happened, so the fact that I was going off to work to make one too, we just felt like we were aligned.”

For now the actor is all set for his upcoming film Fall Gay where he plays the role of a stuntman. He recalls how his “body turned to stone” before doing a scene where he was supposed to fall from a long distance as being a family man affected his life a lot.

“I think it’s happened when I had kids, really,” he said. “You start to be way more conscious of everything you do and everything you’ve ever done and everything you will do if you get a chance to do it.”

The Fall Guy is in theatres from May 3.
