Scarlett Johansson slammed OpenAI for using her “Eerily Similar” Voice on ChatGPT’s Sky System. The Black Widow star called out the ChatGPT’s Sky System for using her voice without her consent. On May 20, the actress’s rep revealed an official statement to E-news sharing her disappointment. As per Johansson, the owner of the system offered to hire her as the voice of the ChatGPT 4.0 system in September which she turned down. However, they seem to ignore the necessity of her consent. Let’s check out the complete details of this story.
Scarlett Johansson said the AI voice sounded like her
The 39-year-old said in the statement, “He said he felt that my voice would be comforting to people. After much consideration and for personal reasons, declined the offer.”
“When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angered and in disbelief that Mr. Altman would pursue a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine,” the actress continued. “Mr. Altman even insinuated that the similarity was intentional, tweeting a single word ‘her’—a reference to the film in which I voiced a chat system, Samantha, who forms an intimate relationship with a human.”
Moreover, she accused Altman also contacting her to reconsider her decision. “Before we could connect, the system was out there,” she added. “As a result of their actions, I was forced to hire legal counsel.”
“Before we could connect, the system was out there,” the actress noted. “As a result of their actions, I was forced to hire legal counsel.”
Moreover, she noted that the company “reluctantly agreed” to take down the “Sky” voice.
“In a time when we are all grappling with deepfakes and the protection of our own likeness, our own work, our own identities,” Johansson concluded the statement, “I believe these are questions that deserve absolute clarity. I look forward to resolution in the form of transparency and the passage of appropriate legislation to help ensure that individual rights are protected.”
Johansson’s lawyers wrote two letters to Altman and OpenAl on this matter.
However, the company hasn’t responded to the statement yet.
