Sanjay Leela Bhansali helmed popular Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is renewed for season 2. On June 3, the official social media of the streaming platform has confirmed the arrival of the second season.The first season which features Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman, and Taha Shah Badussha, has gained immense fame overnight. Despite receiving mixed response from the critics it has featured on the chart of most series on Netflix. The first season premiered on May 1. Let’s check out some more details about this story.
‘Heeramandi’ Season 2 was announced by an event on the Carter Road in Mumbai
The announcement video which was posted on June 3 of the streaming platform features an event on Carter Road in Mumbai where 100 dancers, dressed in sparkling anarkalis and ghungroos, performed on songs from the series surrounded by mobs.
However, there isn’t any revelation regarding the cast or the release date of the much-anticipated second part. Therefore fans have to wait till the further announcement.
Previously in an interview with Variety Sanjay Leela Bhansali revealed the storyline of the season instalment of the series would have been.
The “Padmavat ” director told the international outlet, “In Heeramandi 2, the women now come from Lahore to the film world. They leave Lahore after the Partition and most of them settle in the Mumbai film industry or Kolkata film industry. So that journey in the bazaar remains the same. They still have to dance and sing, but this time for the producers and not for the nawabs. So that’s the second season we are planning, let’s see where it goes.”
Moreover, prior to this interview during a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker seems uncertain about the second part. He said, “First of all, thank you for loving season one. But whether season two happens or not depends on Netflix announcing it if they want to go ahead with it. They are the producers and the best producers I have ever worked with in 30 years. I keep telling them I’ve done some good karma to have had the chance to work with people like them. But the decision to do season two comes from them, not from me.”
