It has always proved that in India there isn’t any shortage of talent. However, of the thousands of skilled musicians, only the immensely talented ones can stand out. Musician Shrae is one of them. Starting her career with the single “A Game For Two” in 2022 these youngsters possess a golden voice. Originally named Shrea Suresh from rock to pop and even jazz, the musician has exposed herself to all kinds of genres. Her latest single “Strawberry Pancakes” released in 2023 was an important element in making her popularity more gigantic. Let’s check out some interesting facts about this newcomer.
The Journey of Shrae
The Mumbai-based singer-songwriter has making interesting growth in her career from the release of her debut album “A Game For Two” in 2022. A year later she dropped her second album “Strawberry Pancakes.”
Mastering her vocals with Jazz ensembles Jazzafools and Agla Station Jazz, Shrae explained because of her songwriting skills, “it is a blessing for her to be able to express difficult emotions through song rather than through speech.”
Addressing the diversity in her singer the musician has said earlier, “I started exploring sub-genres of jazz. Neo-soul, jazz blues, soul, and funk. As I started performing in Bombay with different musicians, especially my band Jazzafools, I learned a lot and decided that this genre suited me the most and I wanted to pursue it more seriously.”
Earlier she also revealed how she penned the songs of her debut single “A Game For Two” which gave impressive growth in her career.
“I had a whole melodic section and chords ready, heavily influenced by experimental jazz, artists such as Jorja Smith, Esperanza Spalding and Erykah Badu,” says Shrae. Shrae adds, “Hence, I chose to write lyrics which I resonated the most to at that point in my life, having been in a complicated equation with someone romantically, and the song talks about this generation’s obsession with toxic, casual and complicated relationships and how I did not relate to it one bit. It’s more of a diss than a description of the situation.”
Recorded the song at Ahmedabad’s Compas Box Studio and produced by Raag Sethi who also contributed guitar and bass parts for the track, the “A Game For Two” indeed can’t be ignored by the music lovers. Coming to her second single “Strawberry Pancakes” released a year earlier also gained decent appreciation from the listeners.
Shrae’s path to achieving more success will undoubtedly be interesting to watch.
