Legendary playback singer Kumar Sanu shared his concern over emerging AI technology. During a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Sanu has claimed that he wants to protect his personality rights, just like other renowned celebrities Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff because of the power of AI. The singer who has been a part of the Indian music industry for several decades also addressed the heated controversy of old songs being remade and remixed. Let’s check out the complete details of his interview.
Kumar Sanu said he don’t want his voice to be replicated
Sanu told the outlet of his concern over AI, “I recently went to the United States to perform in a string of concerts. My next move is going to be approaching the court and take an order like this. Technology today is dominated by AI. Kisi bhi singer ka duplicate ban jaaye (Singers can be replicated), I don’t think this will be correct. One has to protect themselves by way of such methods. AI is dangerous.”
Later on, he also addressed the current scenario of remaking and remixing old bollywood songs.
The singer shared, “I don’t know why producers and directors aren’t able to understand… they ignore melody, use saste (cheap) lyrics, public pe zabardasti thop rahe hain (force it on the public). This is not good. Music ka jo criteria tha usko khatam karne pe tule hain (They want to destroy the criteria of music). I am okay if they remake old songs, but if the original singer is still capable to sing it again, then usse achha koi aur nahi gaa paayega. Yeh kyun nahi samajh paa rahe hain log (no one else will be able to sing better than him/her. Why can’t people understand that)?”
As for the personality right, he isn’t alone as recently actor Jackie Shroff had opted to have his personality rights protected. Moreover, ‘Bigg Boss OTT’ 3 host actor Anil Kapoor, as well as, bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan also did the same.
Sanu has recently finished the ‘Unforgettable 90s’ tour which is the longest-ever tour of his career including 14 shows all around the world. This tour is not his but also the longest tour for any Indian singer, spanning across the USA and Canada from May to June. Prominent singer Sadhna Sargam also joined him in this tour. The tour was conducted across cities such as Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Dallas, Detroit, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, San Jose, Columbus, Calgary, Toronto, Raleigh and Lauderdale.
