Mirzapur 3 actor Vijay Varma opened up about playing dark roles. Varma plays the role of twin brothers Bharat and Shatrughan Tyagi. The last season his character ended with the death of one of the twins. Therefore, in this season Bharat will avenge his brother Shatrughan’s death. In a recent conversation with IndiaToday.in, Vijay reflected on playing dark roles and the reason to join this popular Prime Video series. Let’s delve into the entire details of this story.
Vijay Varma said he think his favourite personalities have been the ones who understand their negativity
The actor, while talking about the line between getting work and fearing being stereotyped, said he believes actors can’t afford to be typecast.
“I have never let myself feel that. As for villainous, negative or dark, they are all such layered characters. The realm is vast, and I think all my favourite personalities have been the ones who understand their negativity,” Varma shared.
On portraying the antagonist roles, the ‘Darlings’ shared, “I don’t want to talk about it like business, but I did find an opportunity in this space. Not a lot of actors were doing these kinds of roles, maybe because of [affecting their] image. I made a great fortune out of it and then went on to also explore other things in between. Be it Murder Mubarak, Jaane Jaan, or Kalkoot, I tried to find other shades. And it’s not just me, it’s the writing. Even with Mirzapur, I am playing two brothers with different shades. I am here to serve. Give me a canvas to paint, and I will paint it.”
Moreover, he added, “I signed Mirzapur the same week Gully Boy was released in 2019. By the time season 2 dropped, I had done a body of work and also had a few releases. From the perspective of an actor, anyone will jump to playing a double role. Also, it was well-oiled machinery and I had seen the fandom Mirzapur has. It was thus not a brave but quite an easy choice for me.”
As for the series, he revealed he is ‘team Guddu’ in the series as he is impressed by the journey of the character. He said,”The impact that he’s left is amazing. It’s beautiful to see Guddu’s journey as a viewer and you would be amazed at what he’s done this time.”
He also shared his mother’s admiration for the crime-thriller,”I came back home one day and saw my mother and my niece watching it. I hadn’t informed my family to not watch it. Every time a character abused on screen; my mother turned back to call me with the same expletive. The next day, I found out that they had binged the whole season, and she kept on asking me when the next one would be out. They were so hooked. The same thing happened last season too. I think it’s such an interesting world that you may have your doubts of who it would cater to, but people of all age and strata love it.”
Mirzapur 3 is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
