Cara Delevingne opened up about her addiction experience which started when she was just eight years old. Although the supermodel is now sober and in a much healthier place in her life she didn’t hesitate to recall the moment she drink for the first time. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times the actress and model revealed how tried alcohol at her aunt’s wedding in 2001 and got very worried about getting intoxicated. Cara Delevingne said she got drunk at the age of 8
The 31-year-old supermodel and actress said of her experience, “I got drunk that day, I was 8. What a crazy age to get drunk.”
Moreover, she noted her struggles with fame and the anxiety and public scrutiny made her substance abuse issues get out of hand.
“I used to think drugs and alcohol helped me cope,” she revealed. “But they didn’t. They kept me sad and super depressed.”
The superstar who is now enjoying a much healthier and sober life revealed how she managed to get to this positive stage of her life.
Delevingne explained, “I feel like I’ve got my power back and I’m not being controlled by other things… I finally feel as though I can be free.”
“I like AA meetings, I go to them when I can. Some people would say I don’t go to them enough,” she continues. “But I’m doing it my way and it’s working for me. Everyone’s different. You can go in a million times and it doesn’t work. Some people go in once and walk out. Some do it who don’t need it.”
This isn’t the first time she opened up about her addiction struggles and sobriety journey. Previously in an interview with in Vogue’s April 2023 issue Delevingne revealed she made the decision of avoiding substances after reaching a turning point in September 2022.
At that time she got in headlines after being photographed shoeless at a Los Angeles airport.
“I hadn’t slept. I was not OK,” she recalled. “It’s heartbreaking because I thought I was having fun, but at some point it was like, ‘OK, I don’t look well.'”
Moreover, she also spent time in rehab in September 2022 and at the same time committed to a 12-step program helping her to get sober quickly.
