Season 2 ‘House of the Dragon’ has come with a lot of twists and turns for the ongoing rift of house Targaryen, among them one of the major shocking scenes in Episode 6, titled “Smallfolk,”. The climax of episode 6 features a steamy kiss between Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and her Masters of Whispers Lady Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno). For this reason, the claimant queen made plots to reclaim the Iron Throne taken from her half-brother King Aegon II with the help of Lady Mysaria who gained favor for the deposed royal after giving her some progressing advice.
In an interview with TheWrap following the episode, actress Sonoya Mizuno revealed the shocking screen wasn’t really scripted. Let’s check out what she has said.
Sonoya Mizuno said kissing scene in season 2 episode 6 between Rhaenyra and Mysaria was suggested by Emma D’Arcy
Talking with the outlet Mizuno who plays Lady Mysaria said, “It wasn’t scripted as a kiss. I think it was scripted as … there’s just breath between them or something, and then whatever happens is interrupted.”
The actress noted before the filming she, D’Arcy, and showrunner Ryan Condal had “many conversations” on how the scene might end. To which D’Arcy eventually suggests that the scene could play out differently as they all need to feel “queer-baity in any sense.”
“Mysaria has told this story, [D’Arcy] felt the instinct to hold her, to comfort her,” she recounted.”From that, it felt so organic to go into the kiss.”
“I don’t think either of them have been hugged like that in a long time, if not ever,” the actress continues. “I think it was the hug — the intimate vulnerability of that hug — which which morphed into this very tender and passionate kiss, which was quite amazing. I think it’s very thrilling in the moment for both of them.”
Mizuno suggested that the scene might be complicated between Mysaria and Rhaenyra since she has a romantic history with her uncle-husband Daemon (Matt Smith). However, D’Arcy then defends her suggestion by adding it will make the two women close.
“We would kind of discuss it as though it was two women who had the same ex-boyfriend, and they’d be like, ‘Oh, yeah, when he does that thing…'” she added.
