Paris Olympics 2024 is the exciting quadrennial event of this year. Consist of talented athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees in this world India once again fighting hard to get the glorious gold medal. On day 5 of the event, although many Indians didn’t compete in a medal event, they still showed an aura of passion and dedication in this prestigious competition. Some of the athletes making history on the platform while some face exit little soon. Let’s check out the important highlights on the 5th day of the event.
Archery
Deepika Kumari made India proud after advancing to the Round of 16 by defeating the Netherlands’ Quinty Roeffen 6-2.
The four-time Olympian might have faced disappointment in the first set, but she revived her aura to win 6-2 (29-28, 27-29, 25-27, 28-23). She now joined compatriot Bhajan Kaur for the Round of 16.
However, archer Tarundeep Rai exited from the men’s individual competition after facing defeat 6-4 by Great Britain’s Tom Hall.
Badminton
India’s performance of Badminton in Olympics is proven to be sensational after Lakshya Sen sealed the victory in the Group L men’s singles match after defeating the third seed Jonatan Christie of Indonesia 21-18 and 21-12.
Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has also secured a place in the Round of 16 after beating Estonia’s Kristin Kuuba 21-5, 21-10.
Boxing
After having a rough day on Day 4, Tokyo 2020 medalist Lovlina Borgohain made her mark in the campaign with a 5-0 win against Norway’s debutant Sunniva Hofstad in the women’s 75kg making her way in round 16. Her next face-off is against the Republic of China’s Li Qian.
As for male’s 71kg in the round of 16 Indian Nishant Dev gained a victory against Colombia’s Jose Rodriguez Tenorio 3-2. His next competitor will be Mexico’s Marco Verde.
Table Tennis
By reaching the round of 16 Sreeja Akula created history by becoming only the second Indian table tennis player to achieve this milestone at the Olympics.
However, after back-to-back victories she crumbles under pressure under the world number 1, China’s Sun Yingsha, making her take an exit.
Shooting
With two medals in their bag, India’s rifle shooter Swapnil Kusale took the success a way further by reaching the final in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions (3P). However, despite putting in a good effort the youngster ended up with a bronze.
Meanwhile, in the Women’s Trap event, Rajeshwari Kumari and Shreyasi Singh both scoring 113 ended their journey in 22nd and 23rd places.
Rowing
India’s sole rowing representative at the Olympics, Balraj Panwar after finishing fifth in the quarter-finals with a time of 7:05.10 was eliminated from medal contention.
Equestrian
India’s sole equestrian competitor, 24-year-old Anush Agarwalla finished ninth in Group E of the Dressage Grand Prix Individual Qualifier.
