The Current Report of Spotify Finds the Growing Global influence of the Indian Music Industry

The popularity of the Indian music industry is reaching a new level globally. As per the recent reports Spotify has released India-specific data from its annual Loud & Clear report where the growing influence of Indian music is quite evident. The report unveiled a sensational growth in the listeners of Indian music as nearly 40% of the royalties of Indian musicians now come from international listeners. The report last came in 2020. Needless to say, it’s an incredible graph to witness for the Indian fans. Let’s check out some key facts the new Spotify record has revealed.

The Spotify report shows a dramatic move  in music consumption patterns

In 2023, Indian artists were disclosed to over 10 billion first-time listeners showing  Spotify’s commitment to localizing its playlists and enhancing the Indian music’s collaboration level worldwide.

The dramatic transfer noted that five years ago, approx 70% of streams were international music, in which more than 70% listeners  came from local artists. 

Moreover, it further demonstrated India’s daily Top 50 list showing a whopping 84% of tracks were of the Indian artists in 2023. 

With a growing level of listeners, the local artists also witnessed a noteworthy shift in financial growth. As nearly 8,700 Indian artists to local and global editorial playlists, significantly expanding their reach making them earn two-thirds of the royalties of Spotify last year.

Since 2019, music admirers of Indian artists in international markets have increased by over 2,000% making a historical growth in their market.

Punjabi music is as the fastest-growing genre on Spotify

Highlighting the growth of local languages in music, Punjabi music comes as the fastest-growing genre on the music streaming platform gaining an 87% year-on-year increase in listeners in 2023.

Simultaneously, Hindi and Tamil also come to witness remarkable growth as till 2020 its royalties increased from 271% to 390%, and now a remarkable 585%.

Prominent artists like AR Rahman, Alka Yagnik, Anirudh Ravichander, AP Dhillon, and Arijit Singh come across as the most enchanting local talents. These artists saw remarkable growth in royalty, close to 40% in 2023 internationally. Countries such as the US, Canada, Indonesia, UAE, Turkey, Brazil, and Italy produced a high number of listeners.
