Ananya Panday’s starrer’s upcoming series ‘Call Me Bae’ is all set to come on board. Bearing a strong resemblance to the Hollywood show 2 Broke Girls, in this series Pandey has played the role of a wealthy girl whose life turned upside down after her parents got bankrupt. The makers recently unveiled a satirical trailer featuring the actress and Karan Johar who also introduced her in Hindi films with Student of the Year 2, seated in a rocket as Karan shared his strategies for her perfect OTT launch. Ananya Panday is making her OTT series debut with Call Me Bae
The clip begins with Anany ma dressed in a sparkling outfit and dazzling diamonds, asking the producer-director,“What are you doing?”
Karan responded by revealing his launching her, making her shocked as she has launched her already, to which he cheekily noted, “We live once, die once, but we can be launched several times.”
Karan goes on describing his dream role for Ananya, but she interrupts, suggesting, “Like a poor girl from Mirza-poor.”
The producers dismiss the idea, revealing, “You will play a rich girl from South Delhi.” However, with a twist he noted, she will play a rich South Delhi girl who loses her every luxury to struggle in Mumbai.
Soon after the trailer got out the fans point out the plot’s similarities with American web show 2 Broke Girls and further anticipated that Ananya’s character might be inspired by Caroline.
A user wrote in the comment section, “She is definitely Caroline… but who is Max?? while another one shared, “It’s Caroline from 2 broke girls 😂.” another one also penned, “It looks like Caroline from 2 broke girls?? Who is Max???” One more fan declared it as the “Indian version of 2 Broke Girls.”
Created by Ishita Moitra and directed by Colin D’Cunha, Ishita, Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair will serve as the writers of the series.
Apart from Ananya, Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur will also be featured in important roles.
Call Me Bae will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video on September 6.
