Kylian Mbappe had a disappointing beginning in his first match for Real Madrid at the La Liga 2024-25. On Sunday, August 18, the Real Mallorca match concluded in a draw 1-1 after the Spanish and European champions failed to get the required comeback. The French football sensation gets frustrated as he is prevented by Mallorca goalkeeper Dominik Greif from scoring the winning goal. Mbappe who previously was a part of Paris Saint-Germain. Needless to say, the word champion isn’t satisfied with his debut match. Let’s dig into the complete details of this event.
Kylian Mbappe failed to break the defense of Dominik Greif at La Liga
Initially leading the game Rodrygo Goes sent Madrid ahead early on equal level in the second half through Vedat Muriqi’s towering header.
Madrid’s struggle was quite evident to break down Mallorca’s attack, however the latter almost crossed the victory line in the final stage. Madrid can’t retain their leading position making the match end in a tie.
The struggle continued as Los Blancos defender Ferland Mendy had to send back stoppage time putting a huge challenge on Muriqi.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti told reporters after the match, “We went ahead, we had chances to score the second, and then in the second half we lacked balance.”
Ancelotti added, “We conceded counter-attacks, it was not a good game, it was quite a clear game to see that we need to defend better and have better balance on the pitch.”
The coach has selected a similar starting line-up which gained a victory over Atalanta to win the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. The players included Jude Bellingham in midfield behind the Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo attacking line.
Despite scoring a winning goal in the beginning Kylian, the former Paris Saint-Germain forward was unable to break the defense and score another goal in his new home team.
In fact, coach Ancelotti was also not happy with his team’s effort.
“We have to do better, with more attitude,” he continued, “This game can serve us to learn a lot from, it’s a game where it was quite clear where we had a problem.”
He also praised the opponents, noting, “Mallorca had a very good game in a defensive sense, better than us.”
It’s a matter of time to see if they can get rid of the coach’s disappointment or not.
