India’s young opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal is running away from breaking the record in the history of the World Test Championship (WTC). The 22-year-old batter is all set to appear as an opener alongside skipper Rohit Sharma in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting September 19 in Chennai. Jaiswal who has 1028 runs in the World Test Championship 2023-25 is only 132 away from creating history as the first Indian batsman to score the most number of runs in a single edition of the WTC. It will be phenomenal for this young player to achieve this incredible milestone.

Yashasvi Jaiswal will break the record of former captain Ajinkya Rahane
If Jaiswal becomes successful in achieving the milestone he will overthrow former captain Ajinkya Rahane who has 1159 runs in his name at the WTC 2019-21 cycle.
Ahead of the unversed, he will be the third player alongside Rahane and Rohit, to score 1000 runs in a single WTC cycle.
For now, Yashasvi is joint-second in the WTC 2023-25 scoring charts, tied with England’s Ben Duckett on 1,028 runs.
Looking at the bigger picture, if the Rajasthan Royals opener manages to get just 371 runs in his name he’ll be able to top Joe Root who is currently leading the chart with 1,398 runs.
India’s position in the WTC Rankings
The men in blue are currently topping the chart of WTC with a points percentage of 68.52.
They are going to have a WTC series with Bangladesh in which they’ll play two Tests at home, followed by New Zealand consisting of three Tests at home, and finally with their biggest rival Australia which is five Tests away.
As for now, the Indian fans are eagerly looking forward to their face-off with Bangladesh who is currently on their top form after getting a historic 2-0 win against Pakistan in their first Test series on the latter’s home soil.
