All hail for Mia Thermopolis, the queen of Genovia!
After the long-awaited announcement of Princess Diaries 3 Anne Hathaway seemingly confirmed her return for the upcoming project. Hathaway played the role of the normal girl turned princess in the iconic Disney movie. On October 4, the actress shared her excitement on the Instagram post with a cheeky dialogue from the franchise. Hathaway’s reaction comes a day after Adele Lim officially announced her entry in the third installment as the director. To know her reaction let’s dig into the details.
Anne Hathaway is back to Genovia
The Oscar winner posted a video of herself merging with the movie’s clip of her character and co-star Julie Andrews as she counted till three, afterwards she ended the video with saying delivered one of her character’s most popular lines: “Shut up!”
Anne captioned the post, “Miracles happen. Back to Genovia with @adeleblim @disney @somewherepictures. The fairy tale continues.”
The 41-year-old’s reaction comes a day after Crazy Rich Asians screenwriter Adele Lim confirmed her entry as the director of the much-anticipated sequel. Lim who is notable for Crazy Rich Asians made her directorial debut with the 2023 comedy Joy Ride. The rookie filmmaker is also known for her writing works in the 2021 animated epic Raya and the Last Dragon for the studio.
The director said in the official statement, “As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life. We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”
The first of the ventures came out in 2001 which also marked the acting debut of Hathway. The film’s success later led to the sequel in 2004 where renowned actor Chirs Pine made his debut.
While an official announcement came recently, Hathway hinted at the third part a while ago in Andy Cohen’s show on Watch What Happens Live in 2019.
She said at the show, “There is a script for the third movie. There is a script. I want to do it, Julie wants to do it, and Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen.”
For now, the release date and complete cast are yet to be disclosed.
