Staying true to his roots Sriram possessed immense admiration for Carnatic music which is also depicted in his music.
Amid the wave of South Asian music leading to collaboration with Western artists, he seems quite optimistic about making Tamil music a big thing globally.
For instance, like his contemporaries Punjabi megastar Diljit Dosanjh was featured on The Tonight Show, AP Dhillon worked with Stormzy, and Arijit Singh brought out Ed Sheeran at his concert, Sriram also has something big in his mind.
He told the outlet, “My mission since the beginning has been to take my Carnatic musical roots and amplify them across the globe.”
In case you don’t know, the musician has delivered massive hits like Srivalli, Kalaavathi, and Neeli Neeli Aakasam. Although earlier he felt “the world wasn’t ready” when he first entered the scene he believes now “they need it.”
Moreover, he also wants to be a “cultural bridge between two different worlds” as it is what he has “always wanted to do.”
As for his recent performance in Coachella, he won the hearts of netizens for performing a Tamil religious song known as Thiruppugazh.
Commenting on the momentous day he added, “It was very affirming for me and inspiring for sure.”
In fact, he had also signed to the label Def Jam, which has global phenomenons like Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Pusha T.
Not only this, he went viral with his critically acclaimed NPR Tiny Desk concert last year.
Needless to say, Sriram’s mission of creating a wave of Tamil music is quite clear. For now, only time will tell how successfully he’ll achieve this goal.
