Jennifer Lopez finally opened up about her divorce with Ben Affleck. More than a month after filing for divorce the songstress revealed how a shift in her perspective caused their separation. During an interaction with comedian Nikki Glaser for an Interview magazine profile published October 9, Lopez unveiled a lot of facts. The “Let’s Get Loud” singer and her Oscar winning ex who has a history of on-again-off-again relationship for over a decade officially tied the knot in 2022. Jennifer Lopez said she wants to have to have happiness within herself
Lopez said in the interview, “You have to be complete, if you want something that’s more complete. You have to be good on your own. I thought I learned that, but I didn’t. And then, this summer, I had to be like, ‘I need to go off and be on my own. I want to prove to myself that I can do that.’”
Although she didn’t mention Affleck she addressed her failed relationships noting she has to find happiness within herself.
The 55-year-old continues, “Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t be looking for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself.”
“Here’s the thing,” Lopez also shared. “There’s no new bar because I’m not looking for anybody. How’s that?”
Moreover, she explained her current situation, “I’m not looking for anybody, because everything that I’ve done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what can I f–king do when it’s just me flying on my own. What if I’m just free?”
As for what she’s looking for in a relationship now, the Wedding Planner star added her single status “not what I thought it was going to turn out like. This is exactly where I needed to be, to lead me to where I want to go.”
Despite the heartbreaking ending of her and Affleck’s love story with whom she first got engaged in 20s which eventually broke-off she has no regret for being with him.
As she puts in, “Not one second. That doesn’t mean it didn’t almost take me out for good. It almost did. But now, on the other side of it, I think to myself, ‘F–k, that is exactly what I needed.’”
On top of that, she also addressed the rumours surrounding her divorce, noting, “I know that everything that’s being written and said about me, and all the conjecture of who I am as a person, is not who I am. I learned that a long time ago,” she said. “I know I’m a good person. I know I’m a good mom. I know who my friends are. I know my friends know who I am, my mom, my dad, all that stuff.”
Previously a report suggested after the split of the couple that the actress who shares 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony is currently focusing on her kids.
