Tragedy has grasped the Directioners today. Promising singer Liam Payne who was part of popular British band One Direction passed away on October 16. The late singer who shares 7-year-old son Bear with ex Cheryl Cole was visiting Argentina with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy with whom he even shared a photo in swim gear as they smiled for a mirror selfie on Snapchat hours before the news of his death broke out. The local authorities from El Sistema de Atención Médica de Emergencias (SAME) confirmed to Telemundo that Payne died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Let’s dig into the details of Liam Payne’s accident.
How did Liam Payne die?
The ‘Story of Life’ singer who was only 31 at the time of his death was in a long vaccination in Argentina where he even attended former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert.
SAME noted in an official report that in the afternoon of October 16, police received a 911 call “reporting an aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” however it isn’t confirmed if he has taken substances or not.
Moreover, the manager of the hotel where Liam stayed informed in the call that “when he is conscious he is destroying the entire room and we need you to send someone”, adding he was at life risk because of the room’s big balcony.
Shortly after the singer jumped from the balcony leading to his untimely death, the Director of Buenos Aires’ Public Emergency Medical Service of Argentina Alberto Crescenti reported the singer fell from 13 to 14 metres and had serious injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital there was no chance of resurrection and he was pronounced deceased at 5:11 p.m. (Argentina Time). The singer’s body has now been taken for postmortem.
However, the authorities haven’t confirmed if it was an accident or suicide.
Looking back at Liam Payne’s career
In 2010 Payne became part of the iconic One Direction with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik on The X Factor, where they came third. In the subsequent years, the group’s debut single “What Makes You Beautiful” became a massive hit, making him an overnight music sensation.
With the band, he produced some of the greatest songs including “Story of My Life”, “Night Changes”, “Perfect”, “History”, “Kiss Me” and many more.
The band achieved global success by becoming the best-selling boy band of all time before going on hiatus in 2015. After parting ways with the band Liam focused on his solo projects from 2016, and released many songs till 2021.
Later on, he took two year of break until making a comeback with his new and last single “Teardrops”, which was released on 1 March 2024. He was also working on his second studio album since 2023 which unfortunately can’t be released ever.
