Game of Thrones is Returning As a Movie

Winter is coming for the big screens. Game of Thrones is going on board but as a movie this time. The story which is part of the universe began with the TV series, an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s notable novel A Song of Ice and Fire book series is under progress. As per multiple outlets, Warner Bros is looking forward to making progress. However, the cast or the writers or directors have been unveiled yet for the film. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will ultimately show how the HBO series should have ended. For now, the makers are yet to officially announce the news. Let’s check out some more details about the upcoming movie.

In 2014, Martin told the outlet, “It might need a feature to tie things up. Something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know.”

The climax of the Game of Thrones series which premiered for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019 on HBO’s streaming platform has multiple spin-offs. Recently the prequel series of the House of the Dragon, which is set roughly 200 years before the events of the original show. The series has aired for two series; the season two finale went out in August.

Apart from the ongoing prequel, the origin show also had another sequel ahead named A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on Kit Harington’s character Jon Snow which is going to premiere in 2025. However, Harington recently revealed the show is no longer in progress in an interview with Screen Rant in 2023.

“It’s off the table,” Kit told the outlet, revealing the creative team “couldn’t find the right story to tell.”

In fact, Martin shared in one of his blog post that HBO and Max’s parent company Warner Bros’s leadership changes impacted the development of the upcoming instalment of the GOT universe.

“All the changes at HBO Max have impacted us, certainly,” the author shared.”Some [projects] are moving faster than others, as is always the case with development. A couple have been shelved, but I would not agree that they are dead. You can take something off the shelf as easily as you can put it on the shelf.”
