Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is taking a step ahead to making the country a sports powerhouse by formally sending a Letter of Intent to the Future Host Commission, International Olympic Committee (IOC) on October 1. A source of IANS revealed the letter will express India’s intent to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This news isn’t totally unexpected since Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed India’s intent to host this quadrilateral event on several occasions. Here are the complete details of the statement of the source.
IOA on hosting Olympics 2036
A source of IOA said of sending the Letter of Intent to the Future Host Commission to IANS that, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in India in 2036 has taken a significant step forward.”
The source added, “This monumental opportunity could bring substantial benefits, fostering economic growth, social progress, and youth empowerment across the country.”
This isn’t a surprising step for the Indian Olympic Association since PM Modi has always shown eagerness to host the prestigious event.
The PM said in a previous interview, “India is preparing to host the 2036 Olympics. In this regard, the input from athletes who have played in previous Olympics is very important. You all must have observed and experienced many things. We want to document this and share it with the government so that we don’t miss out on any small details in the preparation for 2036.”
Moreover, he also said at the 141st IOC Session in Mumbai last year, “We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to organize the Olympics on Indian soil in the year 2036. This is the age-old dream and aspiration of 140 crore Indians. This dream has to be built with your cooperation and support.”
In fact, IOC President Thomas Bach also admitted there is a “strong case” for India to host the Olympic Games in 2036.
Apart from India, nine other countries have also shown interest in hosting the game which are, Turkey (Istanbul), Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara-Monterrey-Tijuana), South Korea (Seoul-Incheon), Indonesia (Nusantara), Poland (Warsaw, Krakow), and Egypt (New Administrative Capital)
The next edition of the summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, United States of America.
