Prateek Kuhad, the renowned Indie artist has become a musical sensation in India. Since his debut album Tokens & Charms, released in 2015 he hasn’t looked back in her career. Amid his several milestones, he is also the first Indian artist to be signed by the American record label Elektra Records in 2020. Influenced by American pop stars like Bob Dylan and Elliott Smith he perfectly blends folk music with acoustic sounds and unconventional structure.
Ahead of his India tour kicking off on November 8, Kuhad sat down for an interview with Indian Express, revealing the reason behind pursuing music. Let’s check out the complete details of his interview.
Prateek Kuhad said he didn’t initially want to pursue music
Kuhad sat down for a candid interview with the outlet where he candidly revealed he had not initially wanted to become a musician.
He said, “I thought it would remain a private passion. But over time I realized I wanted to fully give it a shot, and I never looked back since.”
Cut to now, Prateek can proudly call himself one of the most celebrated Indie artists of the Indian music scenario. However, fame isn’t hard on him as enjoys every aspect of music.
“There is no ‘least’ really. I enjoy all aspects of doing what I do. I really love singing. I love making the songs more, but I enjoy performing the songs as well,” the 34-year-old noted.
With success, there’s also criticism which he deals with quite maturely as the singer-songwriter revealed, “I try not to let it affect me too much, that’s really all you can do. It’s a practice. I don’t really care about what is expected of me by my listeners. Or by anyone, really. What is harder is dealing with what I expect of myself.”
Despite becoming a sensation Prateek believes the ecosystem is “still young and evolving” is one the major difficulties of the music industry. He added, “Seldom you get the support and expertise that you can get in other parts of the world with a more mature music ecosystem.”
The musician who has a long tour on board revealed the details of his performance in international and national scenarios.
He said, “This time around, my sets in Europe and the UK are solo acoustic performances — just like my shows in the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand earlier this year. For the “Silhouettes” tour in Nepal and India, I’ll be performing with a band.”
