The world champions are defeated! Pakistan thrashed Australia by eight wickets claiming their first historic win in a bilateral series after 22 years. Although the hosts were in the lead after the 1st match the back-to-back losses led to this heart-aching defeat. Undoubtedly it’s quite shocking to see the current  ODI World Cup champions totally collapse in their home. Pakistan gave an incredible performance with both bat and ball.

The Greens put an end to the Aussies innings in only 140 runs thanks to the breakthrough spell of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf. Simultaneously, the opening pair of debutant Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique built an outstanding partnership of 84 making the low target so easily chasable.

Here’s the complete highlight of the 3rd and final ODI.

Pakistan won the toss and captain Mohammad Rizwan elected to field. After the last-day win, PAK seems quite confident with their bowling attack.

On the hand, the hosts tried to give the game a stable start. However, Naseem Shah sent AUS opener Jake Fraser-McGurk to quit early in the pavilion with just 7 runs. Although opener Matt Short made an effort to let the team recover from the loss, the batters from the other strike stumbled so quickly as Afridi and Rauf claimed the important wickets of Aaron Hardie (12) and skipper Josh Inglis (7) (substituting Pat Cummins, who missed the last game).

After Short (22) became Haris Rauf’s prey, the subsequent players failed to make their mark. Glenn Maxwell got out for a duck which is his second time in the series, and All-rounder Marcus Stoinis scored only 8.

This poor batting presentation continues in the lower order as well. In the end, Sean Abbott scored the highest 30 runs of the game.

Pakistan’s spectacular performance continues with the best. The opening pair, Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique gave the team a solid start, with a partnership of 84 totally dominating the host.

Despite losing both of the openers in a single over under the attack of Lance Morris, the PAK showed the same confidence and resistance. It took them only 27 overs to finish the game with Babar Azam and skipper Rizwan’s valuable knocks of 28 and 30 runs.

With this series, Pakistan registered a historic win against the current ODI champions since 2002.

For leading the team in conquering the home team after such a long period bowler Haris Rauf was named both the Player of the Series and the Player of the match.
