Italy fans worldwide celebrate the Italian football teams’ victory over England (3-2), even on penalties in the Euro 2020 final in London.
The team was warmly welcomed as they arrived back in Rome from London on Monday.
A huge crowd gathered at their arrival and cheered as Captain Giorgio Chiellini held up the trophy, won only once before by Italy in 1968.
As per sources, the victory has brought joy back to the country after the devastating pandemic.
Coach Roberto Mancini is being called the Italian miracle who transformed a national team from the embarrassment of failing to qualify for the last World Cup to a side undefeated now in 34 games.
He has brought youth and confidence to the Italian team and made Italians fall back in love with the “Azzurri”.
The victorious team landed at Rome’s Fiumicino airport early on Monday morning. Crowds cheered as they disembarked, and later as they arrived at their hotel.
Chiellini, the team’s captain was wearing a crown as he held the trophy in the air. He intends to keep it next to him on his bed overnight.
Later in the day, the entire team was welcomed by Italian President Sergio Mattarella. And then they were greeted by Prime Minister Mario Draghi later.
Sunday, the game night began with astounded silence. Team England had scored an early goal but was changed by the ecstasy of the Italian equaliser.
Their win was followed by wild celebrations after a penalty shoot-out, that some could hardly watch from tension.
Rome became a fan zone. Thousands of fans and supporters started jumping in pure euphoria.
They were shouting and hugging each other after a missed penalty by England’s Bukayo Saka led Italy to victory.
Fans were overjoyed and started partying on the streets all over the world immediately.
“I am so happy! We are Euro champions, I am going to celebrate all night, I am going to celebrate all night!” Beatrice Mattioli in Rome told Reuters news agency.
“It’s incredible, it’s incredible, you can’t feel better than this, it is amazing, we won the final!” said Stefano Gucci, another supporter in the Italian capital.
