The cofounders of the clothing brand, Purna Khatau and Phoebe Vickers, have filed a lawsuit against the model in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. They claim that the model is causing market confusion by selling a skincare line under Rhode, and they want her to stop doing so.
Khatau wrote in the document that she and Vickers founded the firm in May 2013 and have “committed ourselves to build and to nurture the RHODE brand through great personal sacrifice and struggle” since that time.
It is now well recognised as a trustworthy brand that can be purchased at upscale retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. Famous people like Beyonce, Rihanna, and Mindy Kaling are fans of the label. According to the complaint, RHODE is anticipating revenue of USD 14.5 million for the current year.
According to the complaint, Hailey Bieber husband, musician Justin Bieber, pushed her company to his 243 million Instagram followers, garnering 1.5 million likes with a single posting. Justin is married to Hailey.
According to the cofounders Hailey Bieber made an offer to purchase the rights to the name from them four years ago, but they turned down the offer.
“Unfortunately,” stated Vickers and Khatau, “the fact that Hailey is presently concentrating on skin care while we concentrate on fashion has not been successful in avoiding brand confusion, and it will not be successful in the future.” Both of us are a part of the greater beauty business, in which the fashion and cosmetics industries closely overlap and often work together.
” Hailey Bieber has mentioned that she wants to develop a clothing line, and she even filed for ‘Rhode’ as a trademark for apparel,” they continued. “Rhode” is an acronym for Rhode, the name of Hailey’s brand. “We have no problem with rivals entering the market; we only ask that they not use our brand.”
