In the first episode of Megan, Duchess of Sussex’s new podcast Archetypes, she recalls the most frightening moment of her life. The Duchess recalled the moment when her son’s nursery caught on fire while she was away with her husband Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex in South Africa. She discussed this moment with the first guest on the podcast tennis and her close friend Serena Williams. Further on they discussed the difficulties of being a working parent.
How did Megan deal with the fear of her child’s life?
In the first episode of the podcast Archetypes on August 23 the former actress invited her friend tennis star, Serena Williams. During their conversation titled “The Misconception of Ambition,” both of them talked about the moment when they faced a conflict between work and children. The 41-year-old recalled the moment when she and her husband Prince Harry were on a trip to South Africa in 2019 when a fire broke out at the nursery of their son Archie. He was only 4-months old at this horrific incident.
About the incident, She said,” There’s this moment where I’m standing on a tree stump and I’m giving this speech to women and girls and we finish the engagement, we get in the car, and they say, ‘There’s been a fire at the residence.’ What? ‘There’s been a fire in the baby’s room.’”
Later on, the Duchess said they found their nanny in “floods of tears.” She also admits to being thankful to her nanny as her decision to tie Archie back with a mud cloth ultimately kept him safe.
As she continues, “Her instinct was just, ‘Let me bring him with me before I put him down.’ In that amount of time that she went downstairs, the heater in the nursery caught on fire. There was no smoke detector. Someone happened to just smell smoke down the hallway, went in, fire extinguisher. He was supposed to be sleeping in there.”
Furthermore, she said after returning, she could stand to leave her baby for another official engagement.
The first guest on the podcast
Tennis star Serena Williams was the first guest on the show. She shared some incidents of the difficulties of working parents. She is one of the closest friends of the Duchess. Williams also made an appearance at Markle’s royal wedding with Prince Harry in 2018.
