Is BLACKPINK’s Jennie playing a Bisexual character in the upcoming HBO series ‘The Idol’?

BLACKPINK’s Jennie is all set for her acting debut in the upcoming HBO American series ‘ The Idol’. Jennie will act alongside prominent actors like Lily Rose-Depp, Abel Tesfaye, The Weeknd and Suzanna Son. The series is created by Euphoria’s maker Sam Levinson, famous singer The Weeknd who will also act in the series, Reza Fahim. However, according to the American fashion and culture magazine Flaunt Jennie will be playing the role of a bisexual woman. Fans are curious about her every move since BLACKPINK’s recent comeback. 

The character of Jennie in ‘The Idol’

On July 18, of this year the k-pop singer officially joined the cast of the HBO series. However, since then fans believe that she is doing a cameo appearance in the series. But on the 21st Sep after the second trailer( https://youtu.be/x4so_R1Htt8) of the series was released Jennie can be seen in many scenes of the trailer. The trailer finds the 26-year-old clubbing with the lead Lily Rose-Depp. The K-pop star is appearing by the name of Jennie Ruby Kim.

However, according to the sources of American fashion and culture magazine Flaunt her character is bisexual. The Blackpink fans also believe that her character might be an LGBTQ+ representation in the series. Later on, the Korean website Koreaboo faced a lot of backlash from the netizens after saying that the trailer gives sapphic vibes. Netizens criticised it for being queerbaiting. 

In July, in an interview with a Korean news agency, Yonhap Jennie shared her excitement about working in this series. She said that the script is very intriguing and how badly she wanted to be a part of it. Apart from that she also said to be working hard and requested her fans to watch it.

About the series

The series is based on a female pop singer who becomes involved in a romantic relationship with an enigmatic LA club owner who is the leader of a secret cult. 

However, the release date isn’t confirmed yet. It seems like we have to wait a little longer to watch this series!
