Harry Potter’s family lost another member. On October 14, actor Robbie Coltrane who famously portrayed Hagrid in the Harry Potter franchise took his last breath at 72. His agent Belinda Wright confirmed the news of his passing. The actor’s death comes over a year after the death of his fellow star Helen McCrory.

How did Robbie Coltrane die?

On October 14, his agent Belinda Wright confirmed Coltrane’s death with a statement. It follows-“For me personally I shall remember him as an abidingly loyal client. As well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly witty and after 40 years of being proud to be called his agent, I shall miss him.”

Later on Wright tribute to his iconic acting performances. “Robbie was a unique talent, sharing the Guinness Book of Records’ Award for winning three consecutive Best Actor Baftas for his portrayal of Fitz in Granada TV’s series Cracker in 1994, 1995 and 1996 with Sir Michael Gambo. He will probably be best remembered for decades to come as Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, a role which brought joy to children and adults alike all over the world, prompting a stream of fan letters every week for over 20 years.”

Coltrane wed Rhona Gemmell on 11 December 1999 but later divorced in 2003. They even shared two children together, a son Spencer, and a daughter Alice.

He was ill for almost two years before his death. His son, daughter and sister Annie Rae and mother Rhona Gemmell were there by his side.

Coltrane even joined the 20th-anniversary celebration of Harry Potter where he talked about his journey. He said,”The legacy of the movies is, I suspect, that my children’s generation will show them to their children,” he said. “So you could be watching it in 50 years’ time, easy. I’ll not be here, sadly, but Hagrid will, yes.”

Needless to say, Robbie Coltrane will always be in the memories of his fans and family. May he rest in peace.
