Rihanna is ready to lift her fan’s moods with her upcoming Super Bowl performance. However, on February 7, at the Super Bowl LVII press conference, the “Umbrella” singer said she thinks her new music ‘might not make sense’ to her fans. The mother of one revealed she had changed her Super Bowl Setlist over 39 times.
Rihanna is not musically feeling open
At the February 7th Super Bowl LVII press conference the “Diamonds” singer said she is not feeling open musically. Although she is open to “exploring, discovering, creating things that are new, things that are different, things that are off, weird, might never make sense to my fans.” She also added, “I just want to play, I want to have fun with music.”
Later on, Rihanna also joked about her long hiatus. The singer said, “Anti was the first time that I took my time making an album while not on tour. That frustrated my fans a bit and now, look, I’m doing it to them again!”
The 34-year-old then talked about the preparations she is making for the big event. She continues, “I’ve been so focused on the Super Bowl, I totally forgot my birthday is coming up. I totally forgot about Valentine’s Day. [There’s] a lot of preparation, a lot of moving parts. And this week, this is the week that everyone is being tested. We’re just tightening up everything, everybody’s dialing in, everybody’s tuning up.”
Then, she recalled the moment of getting this opportunity. She said, “When I first got the call to do it again this year, I was like, ‘You sure?’ Like, I’m three months postpartum, I don’t know that I should be making major decisions right now.”
However, The singer who shares a 7-month baby boy with partner A$AP Rocky believes her journey of motherhood is making her stronger than ever. She said, “When you become a mom, there’s something that just happens where you feel like you could take on the world, you could do anything.”
Talking about her biggest challenge, she said, “The setlist was the biggest challenge. That was the hardest, hardest part. Deciding how to maximize 13 minutes, but also celebrate. That’s what this show’s going to be. It’s going to be a celebration of my catalog.”
She continued, “We did a pretty good job at narrowing it down. There’s probably been about 39 versions of the setlist right now. We’re on our 39th. Every little change counts.”
For now, Riri’s fans can’t wait to see her perform after a long time.
