Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s Latest movie, is set to be released this Friday, July 21, amidst the casts making headlines while leaving the London premiere of the movie Midway for the strike called by Hollywood’s actor’s union.
Oppenheimer Casts Leaves the Premier in “Solidarity”
Oppenheimer Casts left the premiere on Thursday after the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA) called their first joint strike for the screenwriters after failing to approve an agreement with the streaming service and studio elected by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
The Cast of Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Rami Malek make a glamorous entrance on the red carpet of the film’s London premiere.
However, the reports claimed they had been left before the screening of the movie in preparation for the strike.
Director Christopher Nolan later announced on stage with a statement saying, “You’ve seen them here earlier on the red carpet. Unfortunately, they’re off to write their picket signs for what we believe to be an imminent strike by Sag, joining one of my guilds, the Writers Guild, in the struggle for fair wages for working members of the unions, and we support them,”
The cast moved an hour after the SAG board’s announcement so that they could walk the carpet.
The Oppenheimer Actor Matt Damon said supporting the decision, “We talked about it. Look, if it’s called now, everyone’s going to walk obviously in solidarity… That’s why we moved this (red carpet) up because we know the second it’s called, we’re going home,”
He also added, “We gave the strike authorization. We voted 98 percent to 2 percent to do that because we know our leadership has our best interest at heart,”
Actress Emily Blunt, who has also been playing a major role in the movie added, “Obviously we stand with all of the actors and at whatever point it’s called, we’re going to be going home and standing together through it because I want everyone to get a fair deal.”
This Strike has been the first Strike by Hollywood actors since 1980. Moreover, this Strike by Members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has been going on since early May for higher minimum pay, better wages, and other things.
