Barbie casting director Allison Jones revealed Ryan Gosling isn’t the only one with Ken energy. On July 20 at an interview with Vanity Fair, he revealed the name of the actors who turned down the role of the iconic doll. ‘Barbie’ is taking the theatre by storm so it will be really interesting to know the names of the actors who were almost cast alongside Margot Robbie.
Allison Jones said Bowen Yang, Dan Levy, and Ben Platt were considering the role of Ken in the Barbie movie
The casting director told the outlet Dear Evan Hansen actor Ben Platt, Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang and Schitt’s Creek alum Dan Levy were considering the role of Ken.
“They were, I’m not kidding,” Jones said, “really bummed they couldn’t do it.”
However, the role ultimately went to Ryan Gosling who definitely played the role more perfectly than ever. Even Barbie Margot Robbie who is also the producer of the film also wanted Gosling as her Ken. As she said in an interview to write in the script “Ken Ryan Gosling”—and jokingly said, “We pretty much wouldn’t take no for an answer.”
Moreover, he revealed it wasn’t only Ken, the role of Allan (Ken’s buddy played by Michael Cera) also has a fair share of competition including actor Jonathan Groff.
“Dear, dear Jonathan Groff was like, ‘I can’t believe I’m typing this,” Allison added, “but I can’t do Allan.”
Moreover, actor Michael Cera who eventually played Allan revealed his experience to film in a set that is “stunning to see.”
In a July 24 interview with British GQ, he said, “It was full of the most minute attention to detail. Every single tiny little element, even if it would never be seen on camera, was perfect and brought you into this world. It didn’t feel like playtime. It felt like the biggest amount of money I’ve ever seen spent.”
