Kristen Stewart shared a point of view of her and Robbert Pattinson’s breakthrough movie Twilight. In a recent interview with Variety, the actress opened up about her career trajectory as a queer actress and how she found a new perspective in this popular teenage franchise. Although at that time she wasn’t vocal about her sexuality, her presence makes the film quite an evident projection of ‘gay’ art. Let’s dig into the complete details of this story.
Kristen Stewart said the film is a representation of a very Gothic, gay inclination that she loves
The 33-year-old told the outlet about the movie where she stars alongside her ex-boyfriend, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, “I can only see it now. I don’t think it necessarily started off that way, but I also think that the fact that I was there at all, it was percolating. It’s such a gay movie. I mean, Jesus Christ, Taylor [Lautner] and Rob and me, and it’s so hidden and not OK. I mean, a Mormon woman wrote this book. It’s all about oppression, about wanting what’s going to destroy you. That’s a very Gothic, gay inclination that I love.”
The ‘Twilight’ franchise runs for five parts from 2008 to 2012.
The actress first got vocal about her sexuality in 2017 at Saturday Night Live, while firing back at Donald Trump who shares some mean comments on her reading of her and Pattinson’s relationship.
“Donald, if you didn’t like me then, you’re really probably not going to like me now, because I’m hosting SNL — and I’m, like, so gay, dude,” she at the show.
“It was cool to frame it in a funny context because I could say everything without having to sit down and do an interview,” Stewart said to Variety.
“It wasn’t even like I was hiding,” the actress says about being vocal about her sexuality. “I was so openly out with my girlfriend for years at that point. I’m like, ‘I’m a pretty knowable person.’”
However, for now, she is in a happy space with her fiancée, Dylan Meyer with whom she also attended the 2022 Oscars where she got nominated for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the critically-acclaimed movie Spencer.
“It’s not that I wasn’t scared,” the actress said about her relationship.. “It was just that there was no other way to live.”
