Robert Downey Jr reacted to Jimmy Kimmel’s Oscar joke about him. Kimmel, who hosted the 96th Oscars, made a pointed zinger at the actor’s substance abuse expense during his opening monologue. Although fans are assuming he might be disappointed with the joke, the Oppenheimer actor is giving a lighthearted response in a new interview.  In Esquire’s April/May issue, which hits newsstands April 16 the Marvel star finally gives an open reaction to the jokes. Let’s dig into the entire details of this story.

Robert Downey Jr said he doesn’t care about Jimmy Kimmel’s Oscar joke

The 59-year-old actor won Best Supporting Actor at the prestigious event which also marked his first Oscar ahead of Kimmel’s reference to the actor’s past struggles with substance abuse with a wisecrack.

“This is the highest point of Robert Downey Jr.’s long and illustrious career,” he said at the event. “Well, one of the highest points.”

When the camera panned to the actor he playfully tapped his finger to his nose and his Openhimmer co-star Emily Blunt also laughed while offering a supportive pat on his shoulders.

“Is that too on-the-nose, or is that a drug motion you’re making?” Kimmel said of the gesture.

Finally, Robert has given a candid reaction to the incidents, as he told the Esquire, “I don’t care, I love Jimmy Kimmel. I think he’s a national treasure.”

On the biggest night, Downey has his wife Susan Downey by his side. Previously in an interview with Esquire, the actress talked about the narrative that she “turned his life around.”

“I can tell you that I would never be who I am without him in my life,” Susan says. “His trajectory is just the easier one to chart because he’s had to live his ups and downs in public. When we met, we were fortunate that he was in a place where he was open to do things differently than he had historically. But you know what? So was I.”

The couple who has been married for more than a decade shares kids Exton, 12, and Avri, 9. While the star is also dad to son Indio, 30, with ex-wife Deborah Falconer.

Needless to say, Downey and Kimmel seemingly don’t have any bad blood.
