Key Points
Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan again proved to be the game changer of Indian cinema. The superstar has now made a surprising strategic decision as a producer: not selling digital rights of his upcoming movie as long as they’re still running in theatres. A source of Pinkvilla has confirmed the news. Let’s check out the complete details of this news.
The details of Aamir Khan’s new step
The prominent superstar has successfully taken up the responsibility of an actor, producer, and director numerous times, sometimes leading to unconventional decisions. For instance, in the early 2000s, he became the producer-actor to come up with authentic marketing strategies to position his movies.
As for the new movie, a source of Pinkvilla revealed that “Aamir doesn’t want to pre-sell the digital rights of his films. His vision is to revive the social comedy genre by keeping it exclusive for the big screen for at least 12 weeks.”
The source added, “He will sell the digital rights only after the release of the film in the cinema halls. While the digital medium is keeping the box-office clause in the contract, Aamir is willing to sell and value his film based on the audience reception to the content on theatrical release.”
The reason behind Aamir Khan’s new move
Amir seems to take a lesson from his latest production ex-wife Kiran Rao’s dramedy Laapataa Ladies which is released in cinemas on March 1. Despite failing to make a mark in the theatres once it was released on Netflix India 8 weeks later, on April 26, the movie witnessed a sensational growth in viewership. Therefore, the makers believe such a transition occurred not due to the publicity issue, but because of the impression of the movie’s possible release on Netflix which prevented the audience from heading towards theatres.
Needless to say, this is indeed a blood movie from the actor who has notably enrolled Aparna Purohit, Qformer Head of Originals for India and Southeast Asia at Prime Video, as the chief at his production house Aamir Khan Productions. On top of that, he also shared in a recent podcast about taking the role of producer more seriously in this phase of his career.
Khan last appeared in the 2022 film Laal Singh Chaddha which is the official remake of Hollywood classic Forrest Gump.
