Ariana Grande clapped back at haters who are criticizing her for the sudden change in her voice. The “Thank You Next” singer recently appeared in the episode of the Shut Up Evan podcast with Evan Ross Katz, where she pointed out the double standard around method acting. Moreover, Grande who portrays Glinda in the upcoming Wicked film reveals to Katz that she is switching pitches for the sake of her character in the upcoming movie. Let’s check out what she had said.

Ariana Grande said she spend a long time playing Wicked character every single day

The singer-actress told host Katz that she is switching pitches for the sake of her character in the upcoming movie, noting, “a normal thing people do, especially if you have a large range.”

She also revealed that she trained her voice to sing and speak at a higher range for the “dream role.”

“I did just spend a long time playing a character every single day,” the 31-year-old said. “[I trained] my voice to do different things for a long time before leaving for London and before any of this. The voice is in the body, it’s an instrument and muscle memory is a real thing.”

Moreover, she also criticized the double standards industry has around method acting for women.”I mean, you see male actors, sure people make jokes here and there as well about everybody who experiences something like this, but it’s always after the fact that they’re like, ‘Oh wow, how dedicated to his craft! What an amazing transformation! He’s a brilliant performer!’ But then it’s like, God forbid I sneeze like Glinda or something,” Grande said.

She continues, “[Then] it’s just that I am crazy […] it’s the weirdest thing.”

This isn’t the first time she addressed this criticism. After making a voice of her on the Podcrushed show hosted by Penn Badgley went viral on TikTok where fans noticed some changes in voice. Ariana responded to the criticism by dropping a comment under the video, writing, “It’s a habit (speaking like this for two years) and also vocal health,” she also revealed that she “intentionally” changes her “vocal placement” depending on how much singing she’s doing.

However, for her current plans she told Evan that she is looking forward to planning a tour for her devoted fans.

“I think it would be a really lovely idea to be able to trickle in some shows in between the two Wicked films. I think there’s a version of that that exists,” she shared.

Wicked: Part One will hit the theatres on Nov. 22, 2024 while part two is expected to release on Nov. 26, 2025.
