Arijit Singh officially beat Taylor Swift in the most-followed musician list on Spotify. The Indian sensation now proudly holds the title of the “Most followed artist on Spotify” after the head-to-head combat with the Grammy winner. It’s indeed an immensely proud moment for India as well as Asia as Singh is the first-ever Asian to top the list. The singer has been notable for his songs “O Maahi”, “Galti Se Mistake”, “Tum Hi Ho”, “Lehra Do” and many more started his career back in 2007.
Receiving several prestigious accolades including a National Film Award and seven Filmfare Awards, Singh has sung in multiple Indian regional languages including Hindi and Bengali. He came to fame in 2011 after the release of the song “Phir Mohabbat” from the film Murder 2 which he sang alongside Saim Bhatt and Mohammed Irfan composed by Mithoon. Arijit Singh has 117.2 million followers on Spotify
Arijit Singh suppressed Taylor Swift with a whopping 117.2 million followers. Snatching the Grammy winner’s title by having 21,000 more followers, Singh has become the first-ever Asian artist to top the chart. However, in terms of monthly listeners, Swift has defeated the Indian playback singer.
Swift now ranks no.2 in the list with 117.18 million. The “Shake it Off” singer is followed by “Shape Of You” singer Ed Sheeran with 115.01 million followers. Meanwhile, other prominent musicians like Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish have 98th and 96th followers respectively.
Last year, Singh had a brief win against the “Fortnight” singer, however, Swift quickly regained his position.
Adding to his uncountable milestones Singh has also become the Indian musician to cross the 100 million mark on Spotify. In the list of top 20 artists only Oscar-winning musician A.R Rahman has been the only Indian singer on the list along with Arijit with 49 million followers.
Talking about the recent work of these two artists, Singh’s songs “Sajini” from Laapataa Ladies, “Thainu Khabar Nahi” from Munjya, “Satyanaas” and “Tu Hai Champion” from Chandu Champion gained immense popularity among the audience.
Meanwhile, Taylor’s eleventh studio album The Tortured Poets Department also received a positive response from the listeners.
