Ben Affleck shared his true feelings about his and ex-wife Jennifer Lopez’s 2003 film Gigli. The actor-director revealed the reason he feels guilty about the movie’s commercial failure. On November 8, during an interview with Deadline alongside pal Matt Damon he shared some insight on the commerce failure. Despite being a failure, the 2003 film was immensely loved by the audience.
Ben, who shares kids Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with ex Jennifer Garner parted ways with the actress earlier this year after two years of marriage.

The 52-year-old said in the interview about the film, “I’ve been in movies like Gigli, that’s a famous example, I got a big cash payday for that. Well, it doesn’t feel right in retrospect because they lost money.”
In fact, the Air director accepted that his and Matt’s company Artists Equity seeks to “reimagine” the relationship between studios, actors, and distributors which is not the case for his films.
“It wasn’t the biggest money-losing movie in history even though it was the most famous bomb in history, perhaps,” Ben said. “Nonetheless, that doesn’t sit right with me.”
As for the record, the 2003 film which was made on a huge budget of $72 million only managed to recover a net $7 million.
Previously, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2022 Affleck explained the movie got the fame due to the heating romance between his and the Hustlers actress.
Affleck noted, “The truth about that movie and what it taught me was how much everything around a movie sort of dictates the way people see it, But for being a movie that’s such a famous bomb and a disaster, very few people actually saw the movie.”
He believes his relationship with JLo with whom he rekindled the romance in 2021 and subsequently got married before parting ways in August.
“I had begun having this relationship with Jennifer Lopez, which was selling a lot of magazines and appeared to generate a lot of enthusiasm,” the actor added “They just predictably latched onto, ‘They want a romantic comedy. They want the two of them together. More of that!’”
Nevertheless, he still considers the negative response to the film “a gift” as if “The reaction to Gigli hadn’t happened, I probably wouldn’t have ultimately decided, ‘I don’t really have any other avenue but to direct movies,’ which has turned out to be the real love of my professional life, And I did get to meet Jennifer, the relationship with whom has been really meaningful to me in my life.”
