Celine Dion is not happy with former USA President Donald Trump’s behavior. The Grammy winner’s team has now publically slammed Trump’s using the iconic song ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from the 1997 Oscar-winning film Titanic at a campaign rally in Montana. As per the reports of NBC News On Friday, Aug. 9, Trump and his vice presidential running mate J.D. Vance played a video of Dion performing the song. On the subsequent day, Dion’s team showed the singer’s disappointment via a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter). Let’s check out what the statement says.
Celine Dion does not endorse the use of her song
The statement reads, “Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana.”
Later on, it ends with a question to the former president, “In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use, …And really, THAT song?”
Trump’s team is yet to respond to this allegation.
It isn’t the first time Dion displayed her feud with Trump. In 2017 the singer even rejected his request to perform at his presidential inauguration.
Dion isn’t the only musician to accuse Trump of unauthorized use of the songs.
Previously, in 2020 in the re-election campaign, John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater gave open letter to Trump after he used the band’s song “Fortunate Son” at his campaign events.
Fogerty shared his disappointment saying, “I wrote this song because, as a veteran, I was disgusted that some people were allowed to be excluded from serving our country because they had access to political and financial privilege. I also wrote about wealthy people not paying their fair share of taxes.”
The musician added, “Mr. Trump is a prime example of both of these issues. The fact that Mr. Trump also fans the flames of hatred, racism and fear while rewriting recent history, is even more reason to be troubled by his use of my song.”
