Chris Pine said he was paid $65,000 for the Princess Diaries
Pine recalled in the interview, “It was the height of summer and I was getting off at Magnolia. I was on my little Verizon tiny little flip phone, my silver one, and I got a call from my agents that I booked the job.”
“I pulled over onto the side of the freeway and they said, ‘You’re getting paid $65,000,’ And it was like they had just told me I’d made $50 million. It was absolutely earth-shattering,” he added. “I’ll never forget that.”
Although at the time he was simply relieved to be able to pay his bills. He told the host when he landed the payday his bank account was overdrafted by $400 and he was just about to ask his parents for financial help again.
“I owed my parents rent money,” he noted.
After starring in this popular film Pine got his breakthrough role five years later in J.J. Abrams’ first Star Trek movie as the iconic role of Captain James T. Kirk. Moreover, he also got recognition for his performances in films like Hell or High Water, Wonder Woman, Don’t Worry Darling and more.
Previously at the premiere for his latest film, Poolman which he also directed and co-wrote, Chris told Entertainment Tonight how he remembers being “absolutely terrified” while facing the media circus during the Princess Diaries 2 premiere.
“I remember when we had to do the premiere for that, it was at Disneyland. I got picked up in a stretch limo with my agent and we went there and I was so nervous,” Pine said.
Moreover, he also added, “I mean, I remember wearing Converse and grey pants and just being absolutely terrified. Just because this whole experience and people shouting… you’ve got to get used to that whole thing.”
