Ever went through a deep low phase in your life without wishing that you could just die? Yes? Well, I got you some inspiration from one of the most annoying insects on this planet who aren’t even useful in any way! Cockroaches roam around in everyone’s houses and I’m not even kidding. These little demons have VIP passes to every corner of the world, even those highly hygienic places.
But they are not easy to kill, if you don’t have a supply of ‘HIT’ at your home. So, it turns out, that these annoying organisms might be the most ancient group of insects surviving the earth since the Jurassic age. They have been on the earth since more than 250 million years. Sad to say, but yeah, they have met your great great great great grand parents too. Not to mention that they ‘somehow’ survived the giant asteroid 66 million years ago, which was responsible for wiping out the mighty dinosaurs.
They could live for about a week without their heads, they can live without water for a week too, can go for about a month without food, they can twist through teeny weeny crevices everywhere, they can survive bomb blast and blah blah the list goes on!
So how do these cockroaches do this?
Well, their body is structured to withstand death! Their brain is distributed in the form of ganglia throughout their whole body, the head bears only one ‘supra-esophageal ganglion’ while the rest of the cockroach’s body has about 6 other ganglia to support itself even after the head is cut off.
They have an open circulatory system so; internal bleeding is something very common in their lifestyle. Their respiratory system is in the form of spiracles spread out throughout their body. They can endure forces 900 times or more heavier than their body weight without getting a scratch! They can run at a speed of about 50 body lengths per second which is nearly equivalent to a man running at 320 km/h. Even scientists are taking inspiration from them little roaches.
These roaches could run, walk, jump and fly (almost). They can swim while holding their breath for nearly 40 minutes. No food is inedible to them. They have amazingly strong immune system too! They are like the perfect soldiers of a crazily strong army!
