2022, seems to be bad for the ‘Waka Waka’ famed singer-dancer Shakira. The 45 years old had just confirmed her separation with longtime partner Spanish football player Gerard Piqué a month ago. Now she has been found to be involved in a tax evasion of 14.5 million euros in Spain.
The accusations against Shakira
In July of this month the Colombian singer was accused of not paying 14.5 million tax between 2012- 2014. Prosecutor said she has lived in Spain for nearly eight years with her partner. According to Spanish law, people who live for six months in Spain are required to pay the tax. But in Shakira’s defence she didn’t permanently reside in the country. But It was found that in 2015, she declared Spain as her residence for tax purposes. Judge Marco Jesús Juberías argued she lived nearly 200 days in the country which requires her to pay taxes.
Prosecutor seeks eight years imprisonment for the singer. As per the reports her PR team reveals a statement which says,”since she has always shown impeccable behaviour, as a person and taxpayer, and total willingness to resolve any disagreement from the beginning, even before the criminal proceeding”. According to them, Shakira is ‘fully innocent’.
Moreover, her team also argued that her main residence is in the Bahamas. But as per the reports, she also has a house in Barcelona with her former partner Gerard Piqué.

Shakira’s asset
Reports confirm, the ‘hips don’t lie’ singer is the owner of 2,037 crores(20.370 million) assets. It includes a private island and a private jet. The singer also has a personal farm in Uruguay. Moreover, she is also fond of luxurious cars including a Tesla model car and Mercedes SL 550. Reportedly she also owns a property with her former partner Gerard Piqué, worth 460 million. The couple split a month ago after 12 years. They also have two children. The custody of their children is also in discussion.
Indeed this year isn’t going too well for her.
