Miranda Priestly is coming back with his gang after 18 years. The popular academy award winning movie ‘Devil Wears Prada’ is officially heading for a sequel. As per the sources to multiple reports, Disney is working on a follow-up to the mega-successful 2006 fashion drama featuring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. The groundbreaking news was first disclosed by Puck. Additionally, the report also revealed that both Streep and Blunt have signed on in the sequel.
The 2016 movie was an adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 eponymous novel. The story of the movie revolves around journalist Andrea “Andy” Sachs (Hathaway) as struggles to keep up as the junior assistant to Miranda Priestly (Streep) who is the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. Streep’s role is loosely based on the Anna Wintour type. As for Blunt she stars as Emily Charlton who is Priestley’s senior assistant constantly engaging in a competition to get a leg up on others at the magazine. Moreover, Tucci plays the role of Runway’s art director Nigel Kipling. This film gained multiple accolades including earning Streep an Oscar and a Golden Globe nomination back in 2007 for the role.
Deadline noted that it is hard at work recruiting the original film’s scribe
On 8th July, the Deadline reported that film producer Wendy Finerman is thinking of recruiting the original film’s scribe. Moreover, Aline Brosh McKenna is going to pen the script, which will presumably show Streep’s character near the end of her career. Furthermore, the outlet shared that the original director, David Frankel will also return in the sequel.
However, earlier in an interview with V Magazine Anne Hathaway seemed negative about the Devil Wears Prada sequel.
“Probably not,” she told the outlet. “We all love each other and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to.”
The Academy Award winner also told Deadline in 2022, “I just think that movie was in a different era. Now everything’s gone so digital and that movie is centered around the concept of producing a physical thing and it’s just, it’s just very different.”
Meanwhile, her co-star Emily Blunt shows different perspective about the sequel.”I’d be down,” the Oscar-nominated actress said to Entertainment Tonight in 2018. “I mean, if everyone wanted to do it, could be cool.”
Needless to say, fans are over the moon after getting the news of the iconic film’s comeback.
