Elizabeth Debicki is an Emmy winner now. The prominent actors who essayed the role of Princess Diana for the 5th and 6th seasons of The Crown revealed she wasn’t expecting to win the prestigious award. Debicki won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the biggest night in television on September 15. In an exclusive interaction at the E!’s After-Party, the actress opened up about a lot of facts about her win.
Apart from Debicki her co-stars of the series Imelda Staunton who played Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce who played the Queen Consort, Prince Phillip, and Dominic West who played Prince Charles (Now Charles III) also got a nod at the prestigious event. Let’s check out what the actress has said about her win.
Elizabeth Debicki on Her Emmy Win
The 34-year-old actress stunned the red carpet with a gorgeous classic black Christian Dior ballgown with a beautiful pair of diamond earrings. Sharing the excitement of her first Emmy win the ‘Great Gatsby’ star noted how at first she got totally off-guard by the result.
Elizabeth said, “I was surprised. I think the thing that you realize quite quickly when you’re being nominated for things is that it’s wild to be in the category. That alone is kind of outrageous.”
The actress continues, “When you do panels with these women, you think. Really, truly in my heart, I didn’t know that was going to happen. It’s a lovely thing to win but also a little bit strange.”
Debicki was nominated alongside her The Crown co-star Lesley Manville, The Gilded Age’s Christine Baranski and Greta Lee, Nicole Beharie, Karen Pittman, and Holland Taylor of The Morning Show.
Later on in the interaction the Tenant alum also gave a shout-out to her hair and makeup artist, Deb Ormrod for helping her get into Lady Di’s visual.
“I’ve been meaning to thank them,” The Golden Globe winner noted. “I don’t look like Princess Diana in real life at all and we were close in the show. I walked in looking like a tired person in pajamas and then I walk out, looking like my character.”
Last year, she lost the honour to The White Lotus’ Jennifer Coolidge. In fact, this time she hasn’t even prepared a winning speech.
“I didn’t write anything down because I’m very superstitious and now I’m in a real pickle, so I’m going to do this quickly,” she revealed.
Moreover, Debicki expressed her gratitude to creator Peter Morgan “for making this show and for trusting me with this. To our producers, thank you for your hard work. Deb, my hair and makeup, an amazing woman who transformed me every day. Our cast is so beautiful. It is such a gift to work with you.”
As for playing the part of an iconic woman, Debicki described it as a greatest ‘privilege.’
