Derek Hough shed tears of joy while accepting his award for Outstanding Choreography at the Creative Arts Emmys last Sunday. As per the report of Deadline, the Dancing With the Stars judge dedicated his award to his wife Hayley Erbert while reflecting on her recent skull surgery. According to the source of Deadline, the 38-year-old said with tearful eyes while receiving the award, “ Exactly a month ago I was in the hospital. this is a different moment, A life-changing moment reminded me to really savor each every moment.”
“What a stark contrast this has been,” Hough continued. “I just flew in from Washington, DC, last night.”
Therefore, he goes on dedicating his win to Erbert saying, “my beautiful wife. Your strength and your courage this whole month has been unbelievable. You inspire me every day.”
The couple who tied the knot in August last year has been going through a difficult time since December. As Erbert rushed to hospital while performing at their Symphony of Dance tour in December. Later she got diagnosed with cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and needed an emergency surgery.
The six-time Emmy winner also wrote on social media about his wife’s condition, “As you all know, the past week has been a challenging journey for us due to a life-threatening event that suddenly came into our lives. It was a time filled with uncertainty and fear, going from living our dreams onstage, to a nightmare in an instant. But today, we are filled with hope and relief as we share with you an update. Hayley is doing well. Her recovery process has been nothing short of a miracle. She still has a ways to go with another surgery, hopefully in a few weeks, to insert a skull implant to replace the piece that was removed during the craniectomy. It will restore the skull to its natural shape and protect the brain from injury.”
Needless to say, Hayley’s good health will add more enchantment to his win.
