Travelling to new places whether it’s a man-made or a natural site is like walking through a spiritual path. Along with refreshing our minds, travelling creates an idea of self-care and a deeper connection to the earth, other people, and the self.

However, various sites are still sacred to certain communities, with thousands of years of history and significance attached to them. 

These spiritually significant sites welcome people of all beliefs who are respectful and committed to a deeper understanding.

Camino de Santiago, Spain
  • This Spanish place is known worldwide for its hiking trail. 
  • It was used as a route for pilgrims to reach the city of Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain, where (it’s rumoured) Saint James is buried.
  • Later it was believed that travelling through this route to reach Santiago de Compostela would spare agony after death.

Varanasi, India
  • Varanasi is India’s oldest city known as the “Spiritual heart of India”.
  • As per history, it was this place where Buddhism was found and now numerous people from all walks of life go to pray there.
  • In this city, your ideas about life and death will be confronted, even if only by yourself.

Cape Reinga, New Zealand.
  • Cape Reinga or Te Rerenga Wairua is situated on the northern tip of the country.
  • It is sacred to the Maori people and is called the “leaping place of the spirits”.
  • People believe that the souls of recently deceased Maori use the cape as a place to depart earth and enter the afterlife.
  • This place is beautiful with an enchanting environment and consists of a lighthouse that guides the way overhead.

  • This Indonesian place is set against a backdrop of lush jungle. 
  • Located on the Indonesian island of Java it was built from two million stone blocks in the shape of a giant mandala — a diagram of a perfect universe.

 The Dead Sea, Israel
  • Israel’s Dead Sea is the lowest elevation on earth at 1290 feet below sea level. 
  • The water here is ten times saltier than regular seawater. Still, it can sustain life.
  • Therefore, this location is believed to be one of the most healing places on earth.
  • Minerals present here are often used for medical treatments.

  • Machu Picchu is located in Peru’s Andes Mountains. It is home to many temples, shrines and caves.
  • Climbing here is a spiritual journey for people ever since it was discovered.
  • Numerous sites in Machu Picchu are used for healing and connecting to ancient energies.
