Director-choreographer Farah Khan made an interesting revelation about the making of the iconic song ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh.’ The song featured in the movie 1942: A Love Story starring Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala is composed and written in only 5 minutes according to Khan. During her appearance on the Nasha, she talked about her admiration for the legendary music composer RD Burman. Moreover, she also recalled her excitement when she found out that he would be composing for her second film. Let’s check out what she had said.
Farah Khan said that it was like witnessing the god of music
She said of the song, “For me, it was like witnessing the god of music.”
The director-choreographer continued, “Javed uncle walked in with a blank piece of paper. He hadn’t written anything. He forgot, which he often did. He didn’t do his homework. He asked to be reminded of the scene where Anil Kapoor’s character first sees Manisha Koirala and falls in love with her. He called his assistant and dictated the lines effortlessly, ‘Ek Ladki ko dekha to aisa laga, jaise khilta gulaab, jaise shaayar ka khwaab, jaise ban mein hiran.’ He continued like this, producing several verses. We selected the best ones, and he immediately handed over the completed lyrics, saying, ‘Here, the song is done.’”
Moreover, she revealed she witnessed the late composer take his harmonium and compose the tune on the spot. “I get goosebumps when I think about it. Javed uncle wrote the lyrics in five minutes, and Dada (RD Burman) composed the music in five seconds. The best creations happen just like that,” she said.
Prior to Farah, director Vidhu Vinod Chopra also talked about the iconic song. Chopra said, “Rochak must have made this song about 20-25 times. Javed saab (Akhtar) wrote this line in his car on his way to RD’s (Burman) house because he was very scared that he did not have a line. This song was originally not meant to be there in the film. When Javed saab insisted, I told him, ‘It won’t be there. You can write, but it won’t be included in the film.’”
