Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo unveiled the cause behind the exit from the famous show. The American actress portrayed the character of Meredith Grey in this famous ABC network drama. The actress was in the show for almost two decades. Her exit from the show really shocked the fans of the show.
Ellen Pompeo said she wanted to spread her wings a little bit
On December 13, at The Drew Barrymore Show, the 53-year-old actress unveiled the reason behind her leaving. “I gotta mix it up a little bit. I’m 53, my brain is like scrambled eggs. I gotta do something new. You can’t do The New York Times crossword puzzle every single day.”- the ‘Catch Me If You Can’ alum said.
“I mean 19 years, that’s more than people keep their kids in their house. People keep their kids in their house until they’re 18 and then they send them off to college, so this is like me like going away to college.”- she added.
Furthermore, the host Drew Barrymore asked the actress about her next plan. She replied “I have a lot that I’m doing,I have three kids, so I take care of them. It’s really important for me to be around for them and be more present for them.”
The actress is the mother of three children, two daughters and a son, Stella, 13, Sienna, 8, and Eli, 6 with her husband Chris Ivery. After six months of dating, the couple got married in 2007.
Later on, she talked about her final episodes of the show. “I think we’ve aired six episodes or seven episodes, possibly. Maybe after the winter hiatus, I am in one more, maybe, and then the finale, actually.”
Pompeo’s exit from the show really came as a shock for the fans and they seemed really sad about it. However, it seems like Pompeo made her choice clear.
