India gained a glorious victory in their 1st Test match against Bangladesh at the home ground in Chennai. Ravichandran Ashwin being a complete game changer brought the team out of the trembling 1st innings with a magnificent century. Despite putting in immense efforts Bangladesh’s weak batting order failed to get a high margin of 515. Making a 280-run win over the neighboring country, this match also witnessed a lot of special moments for the players. Hence without any further ado, let’s check out the complete highlights of this Test series.

1st Test Day 1: Ashwin’s match-winning spell

The first day India seemed to be under a lot of pressure after the back-to-back early dismissals of the top-order batsmen including skipper Rohit Sharma, no.3 batter Shubman Gill, and the team’s backbone Virat Kohli. Although Yashasvi Jaiswal showed a great effort by securing 56 runs after his dismissal, the fall of wickets also made the game turn against the hosts as with Rishabh Pant’s 39 and KL Rahul’s 16 only 144 runs were there on the scoreboard.

However, like a ray of sunshine, 38-year-old all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin made a massive transformation in the game. Teaming up with another powerful all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja the duo managed to create a magnificent 195-run partnership making the score lifting up to a solid 339.

1st Test Day 2: The Power of Boom Boom Bumrah

On the second day in 1st innings, Ashwin and Jadeja ended their magnificent spell with 113 and 86 respectively. Later on, spinners Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah added more than 24 runs ending India’s over with 376 all-out.

After giving a terrific bowling performance, Bangladesh’s batting order trembled under pressure from India’s powerhouse Bumrah, Siraj, Akash Deep. The first innings of the Tigers ended after registering only 149 on the scoreboard.

Bumrah claimed the overs with his powerful Yorkers putting 4 massive wickets in India’s pocket.

1st Test Day 3: Pant and Gill’s Extraordinary Century

The third day was marked as the day of the youngsters. After having a positive start with openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, in the 3rd over Sharma ruled out of the game with the extraordinary ball of Taskin Ahmed and the perfect catch of Zakir Hasan. Like the first inning, the skipper can’t contribute more. On the other hand, Jaiswal who created test history in the previous innings with a half century headed towards the dressing room with only 10 runs.

With the early dismissals of these phenomenal openers, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill  tried to gear up the game but unfortunately Kohli became prey of Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s lbw marking the entry of Rishabh Pant.

As the hopes started to fade again the two youngsters Gill and Pant proved the future of Indian cricket is in safe hands.

Pant who got 39 runs in the previous innings hit back quite hard with an incredible 109 runs. As for Gill, after getting out in a duck this 25-year-old batsman shows the champion spirit with a massive 119 runs including 10 fours and 4 sixes.

Following Pant’s exit KL.Rahul also showed some magnificent shots till Captain Rohit declared at the end of the innings after 64 overs with 287 runs giving the opponents a massive target of 515.

However, interestingly the Bangladeshis seemed pretty optimistic till the 17 over marking the dismissal of  Zakir Hasan with only 37. Later on, they got another shock in the 22nd over under Ashwin’s bowling spell. Despite Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s half-century, the batting order wasn’t able to survive under the pressure of India’s bowling attack.

Eventually, the 3rd day ended due to lighting issues with Bangladesh making 158 runs with the loss of 4 wickets.

1st Test Day 4: This is called checkmate

Waiting for the final checkmate, India proves they are here to claim the game. Despite immense efforts by Shakib Al Hasan and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, the back-to-back outings of Liton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Taskin Ahmed made the chances of turning the game impossible.

Throughout the tournament, Ashwan is the total champion with his batting power in the 1st innings and magnificent bowling performance in the second innings. Needless to say, his ‘Player of the Match’ is quite well-deserved.
