New Zealand defeated India on their home ground after 36 years. On Sunday, October 20, on the final day of the 1st test at Chinnaswamy Stadium India failed to stop the Kiwis from reaching the 107 target. After a disappointing start in the first game when India got bowled out in just 46 runs the hosts bounced back in the second innings with the pathbreaking performance of Sarfaraz Khan scoring 150, Rishabh Pant’s heartbreaking 99, and Virat Kohli’s 70.

Despite building up a total of 462 in the second innings due to the weak total of the first innings the NZ got the target of only 107 runs. Without any further ado let’s dig into the complete highlights of the last day of the match.

Highlights of the India vs New Zealand 1st Test Day 5

After the 4th day ended with an incredible knock of Sarfaraz Khan in 150, Rishabh Pant faced a tragedy as he failed to reach the 100 mark.

Following the dismissal of Pant and Khan the team failed to maintain consistency as KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin, continued with a low score and ended up putting 462 on the scoreboard.

Despite having an incredible boost in the second innings their poor performance in the first one led to giving the target of only 107 to the opponents.

On day 5, fans have immense hope for the bowlers to prevent NZ from reaching the target. The hope was raised high as India’s power spinner Jaspreet Bumrah ducked out off skipper Tom Latham in the first over. However, after that, Devon Conway and Will Young maintained a consistent partnership with the latter being 2 runs away from the half-century.

After Bumrah claimed Conway’s wicket in the 13th over a little hope started to pull off.

However, it ended with the entry of Rachin Ravindra. The 24-year-old led the team with Young for a historic win in India after 36 years since 1988 with his 39 runs.

Ravindra who made his second test century with the knock of 134 runs was named the Player of the Match.

While NZ leads the series with 1-0 the next two matches will decide who will claim the trophy.

The 2nd-second test is scheduled from 24 to 28th October, while the final test will be played on 1st to 5th November.
