India’s 7-9-13 medal record at the 2024 Paralympics
7-9-13, this equation will be forever engraved in the hearts of Indians. This is the first time India has claimed 7 medals at a single event. On top of that, with the whooping 29 medals in our bags this time every Indian’s head will rise up with pride for our glorious para-athletes.
India end up in 18 at the point table
India barely missed out on the 15th position after Spain added two more silver making us one gold medal. However, the 18th position is an achievement in itself since this is the first time the country marked their place at the 20 in the Paralympics event leaving behind prominent champions like South Korea and Switzerland.
The Gold Medalists
Para shooter Avani Lekhara gave India a perfect start by claiming the first gold medal in the women’s 10 m air rifle with her contemporary Mona Agarwal winning the bronze medal at the same competition. This also marked Lekhara’s back-to-back gold medal win after the 2020 Tokyo event.
India’s medal gold quest continues with Kumar Nitesh in Badminton at the men’s singles SL3. Later, Javelin thrower Sumit Antil also became the first Indian male athlete to win back-to-back gold medals.
Moreover, Harvinder Singh also brings India’s first Paralympic gold in archery. Eventually, Navdeep Singh gave India a victorious finish by winning the 7th gold medal in the men’s javelin throw F41 with a throw of 47.32 meters after disqualification of Iran’s Sadegh Beit Sayah as per the World Para Athletics rule 8.1.
The silver and bronze medalists
Earlier gold-medalist Manish Narwal won India’s first silver medal in the Games in the men’s 10 m air pistol, followed by Nishad Kumar and Yogesh Kathuniya at the men’s high jump T47, Thulasimathi Murugesan at the women’s badminton events becoming the only Indian silver medalist at the event.
Moreover, the quest continues with Suhas Yathiraj in the men’s singles SL4 para-badminton event, Ajeet Singh Yadav and Sundar Singh Gurjar’s silver and bronze medals in the men’s javelin throw F46 respectively, adding to compatriot Devendra Jhajharia, high-jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu’s silver medals and ending the campaign with Sachin Khilari’s fifth athletics silver medal in the men’s shot put F46 event.
Meanwhile, Preethi Pal, Rubina Francis, Sheetal Devi, along with Rakesh Kumar, Manisha Ramadass, Nithya Sivan, Kapil Parmar, and Deepthi Jeevanji’s bronze medal win lifted India’s position more at the prestigious event.
